Wild yet calm, emotional yet composed, grounded yet revolutionary, the Sahco 2024 collection builds on its rich heritage, reviving and rethinking classic motifs with a 21st century mindset. Like a bouquet of exotic flowers, precious buds and native grasses, the collection binds textiles with idiosyncratic or subtle character into acohesive whole.
For the launch during Paris Déco Off in January the presentation will play on the concept of a wild bouquet, manifested as large flowers made from the textiles and shown as part of a contemporary interior landscape. The collection will also be shown in Milan, Stockholm, New York and LA, with diverse scenography that speaks to each location and mood.
Under the leadership of Creative Director Bengt Thornefors, Sahco has embarked on a radical path, honouring its 200-year-old legacy while imbuing the Maison with a shiver of sensuality. Sahco has pioneered a new way of presenting home textiles, taking cues from fashion culture and the arts, and their interplay with interior design.
The 2024 drapery and upholstery collection draws inspiration from the late 18th-early 19th century movement known as Neo-classicism of the North, fusing grandeur, ornamentation and sophistication with a more restrained Nordic expression of elegance and good taste. Much-loved tropes – leopard patterns, polka dots, epic florals – are recast. Intentions are serious, outcomes playful. Quality is paramount and longevity a given.
The palette draws on the Nordic landscape with colours such as pine tree, bear brown and glacier blue, infused with splashes of picnic red, apple green, evening pink and citrine yellow. At the heart of the collection are foundational blacks and whites in all their intensities and shades.
“We were inspired by this book called Neo-classicism in the North, which sparked a blurry idea or a spirit for where we were going. Studying classic motifs or even borderline tacky ones and executing them in a way that places them in another context. People relate to them but are excited or moved by how we have recast them, so they see them in a new light,” says Bengt Thornefors, Creative Director Sahco.
“The wild bouquet is a descriptive and evocative way of showing how these very different patterns, colours and textures can come together. The Sahco universe is one of contrasts and then finding balance in the composition. It is really important to show the textiles together, as they become something much more. A lot of people are searching for newness but I think greatness is a better ambition. Our intention is to create products that have a reason to be. I would like to be able to hand it over to my kids, that’s what we have in mind when we create products.”

Explicit and implicit, an epic floral pattern sparingly placed on a heavy chenille.
Fiorella is highly evolved and weighty from its triple layers and yet light in spirit.
Its graphic flower framed by expanses of blank space is reminiscent of a Robert
Mapplethorpe still life. Colours reflect its positive sensibility, pink forest, pale
blue, mandarin, sand beach and graphite.

An animal jacquard for keeps, Tablu is a rare beast. Execution and depth are key
characteristics of this high quality woollen textile, a take on much-loved zebra
and leopard patterns made to last and last. Colours are classic zebra, coral red,
charcoal, rust, deep brown, lavender, turmeric, salt and pepper and sand.
SATORA

A downtown uptown leopard that changes its spots. Satora is camo for the city,
a take on the classic leopard motif with a pattern emerging from random mark –
ings in the jacquard. A hybrid with Italian provenance, it can be used for curtains
or upholstery. The palette is determinedly urban – deep purple, dark emerald,
broken lemon, copper, golden caramel, silver grey.
DEEDEE

A polka dot that shimmers with subversive glamour. Deedee transforms the clas –
sic graphic polka dot into a weighty drape with a wet sleek hand. Weaving enliv –
ens the dot, creating a shadowy effect on the solid background and making it re-
versible. Black is silvery, pop red, and vibrant blue exude 50s cheer, while powder
pink, oyster, sand and forest green are subtly chic.
DOYENNE

A statement piece, romantic at heart and dramatic in execution. Doyenne close-
ly references 19th century Sahco archival floral silks, transcending the inherited
past for a vision of the future. Elegant and old school yet original, with depth and
drama from the glowing flowers and crisp hand and drape. The palette is a tight
edit of evening pink, midnight, vibrant turquoise, citrine yellow, and the softer blue
and apricot.
GOUACHE

Gossamer-thin artworks for windows instead of walls. Gouache offers six
hand-painted artworks as a delicate sheer, scaled up and lively, yet dreamy
and transparent with a dissolved watercolour effect. The palette has a touch of
grunge in evening blue and moss green or a fresh apple, baby blue, pink sorbetto
and mango.

ABOUT BENGT THORNEFORS
Swedish born, Bengt Thornefors was a senior designer at Acne Studios in Stockholm for nine years from 2003-2011. In 2012 he became Senior Designer & Artistic Consultant for YSL Saint Laurent, during the tenure of Hedi Slimane as Creative Director. Thornefors founded Magniberg with Nina Norgren, a florist and graphic designer in 2016. Magniberg takes it directions outside of the boundaries of sexes; a meeting between expressions of the modern world; playing on contrasts; breaking rules and classical norms. Thornefors became Creative Director of Sahco in January, 2022.
