MEMOIR – A contemporary interpretation of the classic chandelier designed by GamFratesi 

MEMOIR is a product family designed by GamFratesi, based on a contemporary interpretation of the classic chandelier. The gently shaped opal glass shade at the heart of the design evokes a historical typology and romantic spirit — a lighting series designed to bring luminous sculptures to life in domestic and hospitality spaces. 

MEMOIR originates from the idea of creating a concept with an essential element that could be extended to various compositions while maintaining a clear design identity. The series includes chandeliers, pendants, ceiling, and wall lamps, created with vivid contrasts in mind. 

“We wanted to play with the idea of a relatable historical typology of lighting while adding a contemporary and graphic take on the design. We have always been fascinated by chandeliers, and we wanted to work with a modular concept that maintained a decorative sense without losing its simplicity and functionality”, says Enrico Fratesi.

Three-Layered Opalised Glass 

The opal glass shade is gently shaped at the bottom to evoke historical elements and styles of the past. Its three-layer opal glass emits elegant and uniform light and is the consistent element to connect the series’ wide range of options, all available in two different finishes – satin brass and matt black. 

In contrast, the linear metal structures are industrial and graphic elements with a connector arm designed to avoid any type of welding due to technical and modular engineering. 

The simplistic ingenuity of MEMOIR can permeate a room with a cloud of downward illumination of a chandelier or create an intimate, warm atmosphere with a single ceiling or wall lamp — a distinctive and graceful design intended to light up spaces of the past and of tomorrow.
