Cooee Design launches furniture!
The Swedish brand, Cooee Design expands its collection with a beautiful range of smaller furniture in FSC certificated oak. The new category is designed by Eddie Gustafsson in collaboration with Cooee. Eddie Gustafsson earlier designed Woody, the much loved wooden bird, for the company and the cooperation continues and extends with more products. The furniture collection includes three tables, two mirrors, an exclusive wood basket and multiple sized hooks – all available in oak and black stained oak. The development of the series of furniture was deliberately given a substantial amount of time, this in order to find the right producer for the high level of quality that we required. All pieces in the collection are FSC certificated.
” I’ve created this series of beautiful furniture with the challenge to have opposites attract and work together. I have put together two unstable shapes and let them work in unity to form one stable configuration. The woody basket’s U-shaped bottom and U-shaped handle form a stable shape when working together. A unity of opposites that attract.” Says designer Eddie Gustafsson.
Eddies other aim with the furniture series was to simplify and strip back the products without losing depth and interest in the design and hence create a raw, yet worked product.
“In mixing materials and shapes that boost each other I believe to have fulfilled the task. Metal with wood, wood with mirror, a flat belt wrapped around rounded legs, oval shaped tabletop with rounded legs. Opposites to work together. My goal was to put together a collection that is playful yet elegant. Simplicity with character. I believe we succeeded, the collection is a mix of unique yet playful and simple furniture out of high quality wood. Sophisticated luxury, just as Cooee’s own DNA.” says Eddie Gustafsson.
Tables:
”The whole idea with the tables was to create a simple, beautifully shaped piece of furniture that was stripped back to its raw form, where the constructional element also is the beauty of the design. A three-legged table, exposed, raw end wood, a belt that stabilizes the table but also act as the designing element of the product.”
Mirrors:
”I saw more than one use of the U-shape handle of the wood basket. The small mirror was born. The floor mirror was an evolution of the smaller mirror, an object that holds both practical and design characteristics. The mirrors can both be leaning against or hanging on the wall.”
Wood basket:
”The lack of beautifully shaped wooden basket out on the market made me design this one.
A rounded, delicate yet bold wood basket with a mix of metal and wood. The basket is also easy to carry when its time to refill. The basket may as well be used for a pile of magazines.”
Hooks:
”The design brief for the hooks was to design a product that was functional to swallow a lot of garments on a small space without compromising on the looks. The 3-in-1 hook is very space-saving yet an artwork itself.”
