W+ introduces Cast by Foster + Partners Industrial Design
During 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen, June 10-12, W+ presents Cast designed by global studio Foster + Partners Industrial Design, founded by Norman Foster.
Cast takes a subtler, more delicate approach to directional light in a lighting category shaped by hard lines and overtly technical expressions. Inspired by traditional Japanese papercups, the domed head – with its soft geometry, concealed mechanics, and fluid movement – offers a more human presence, without compromising clarity or performance.
Magnetic, interchangeable lenses allows for quick shifts between three beam angles – 15°, 36° and 56° – moving smoothly from a focused accent to a wider, more open spread. Its specially developed LED and lens system delivers high-quality light with precise distribution and reduced glare.
Texture and finish
Manufactured in cast aluminium, Cast is available in four finishes: anodised bronze, anodised black anthracite, tumbled raw aluminium, and white powder coated. The bronze and black version undergoes a vibration treatment prior to anodisation, creating a non-linear, subtly brushed texture with an organic depth and premium durability.
Cast is composed of two interlocking elements, with a concealed pivoting joint that enables smooth manual adjustment in a clean, uninterrupted form. This hidden joint contains all electrical connections and allows 360 degrees of rotation and 90 degrees of tilt.
Across a range of formats and beam angles, Cast can be adapted to meet a wide variety of spatial and lighting requirements. While each format responds to a specific spatial need, allshare the same adjustability, optical performance, and material expression – and are equally at home in both domestic spaces and commercial environments.
