Båstad, Sweden – In the summer of 2026, The Aurora Concours welcomes one of the rarest and most mythical cars in modern motorsport: the 2007 Koenigsegg CCGT. The model will be showcased as part of the exclusive Koenigsegg class.
CCGT, chassis 7012, is the only car ever completed as part of the project. Originally conceived as a side project within Koenigsegg, the model emerged from Christian von Koenigsegg and a small engineering team’s vision of competing at Le Mans. Motorsport was already a central part of the vision during the development of the first CC prototype. As a result, the ACO’s Le Mans regulations were studied in detail, and the CCGT was designed from the ground up to meet the requirements of the then highly relevant GT1 class.
Among other things, the car’s proportions were precisely adapted to the regulations, which stated that the maximum width could not exceed two metres and that the cockpit had to cover at least 70 percent of the car’s width. Development took place between 2003 and 2007 alongside the company’s other operations. The car was based on the CCR with elements from the CCX, including the front end.

The result was an uncompromising race car. The construction was exceptionally torsionally rigid, with a curb weight of under 1,000 kilos without ballast, a necessity to meet the class minimum weight of 1,100 kilos. The naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8 engine produced around 600 horsepower, matching the class limit, while the car generated more than 600 kilos of downforce.
Power was sent to the rear wheels through a sequential gearbox and twin-plate clutch from AP Racing. The chassis consisted of carbon fibre and was paired with double wishbone suspension, gas-hydraulic dampers, and body panels made from carbon fibre and kevlar. The car was also equipped with carbon ceramic brakes all around and a pneumatic jack system for rapid pit stops. The few people who have driven the CCGT describe a car with exceptional balance and driving feel – a race car widely considered to have had the potential to be highly competitive in the GT1 class.
However, only months after the first tests were completed, the regulations were changed by the ACO and FIA. Carbon fibre monocoques were banned, and production volume requirements increased dramatically, from a total of 20 cars over several years to 350 cars per year. For Koenigsegg, this meant an immediate and definitive end to the project.
As a result, the CCGT never got the chance to compete and today stands as one of motorsport’s most fascinating “what if” projects.

Over the years, the car has been showcased on selected occasions, most recently at The Quail, A motorsports gathering in California in 2024, in connection with Koenigsegg’s 30th anniversary. Today, the CCGT is owned by an American collector and will now make its first appearance at a European concours event. During The Aurora Concours in Båstad, this will be a unique opportunity to experience the only Koenigsegg race car ever built.
The Aurora reflects a growing trend in which international visitors are increasingly drawn to Scandinavia for authentic, high-quality experiences within design, gastronomy, and culture.
The third edition of The Aurora takes place from 26–28 June at Norrviken Gardens in Båstad.

About The Aurora
The Aurora is an international event where automotive culture, design, and lifestyle come together in a curated environment. At its core is The Aurora Concours, where 68 carefully selected cars from around the world are showcased on Swedish soil: 34 classic cars and 34 hypercars. The cars are judged by an internationally assembled jury according to a carefully developed framework adapted to each category of vehicle.
The concours exhibition forms part of The Aurora’s wider weekend programme, during which nearly 500 cars are displayed throughout the park. By bringing together historic collector cars, modern hypercars, international brands, and influential profiles, The Aurora has become one of the world’s most recognised reference points for automotive culture and design.
