Minimal by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec
This spring, Kvadrat Shade launches Minimal, a new roller blindsystem following the conscious design principles, using the complete minimum of resources, full recyclability and maximal versatility and aesthetics. Furthermore, to support architects and designers in their sustainable design goals, Kvadrat Shade is launching a new online Carbon Neutrality Tool, which can measure how long it will take to hit the carbon-neutral break-even point when one of Kvadrat Shade’s solutions is used.
Minimal is an interior roller blind solution designed by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, created to offer the ‘best minimum’. The core component is an innovative bracket crafted from a single piece of folded steel. Minimal minimises the use of materials, it is durable and easy to assemble, install and use. It is exceptional flexible too, both aesthetically and functionally.
’When I designed Minimal, I stripped the design down to its core. The system builds on a very different aesthetic: the beauty lies in very few elements that are carefully weighted and balanced. With minimal materials, we have achieved a self-explanatory system that is strong yet transparent.’ Erwan Bouroullec.
Simple to disassemble, Minimal allows for the textile to be easily changed – without having to dismantle or dismount the complete system. Its minimalist, industrial expression will seamlessly fit most spaces.
The Minimal bracket comes in a selection of colours and finishes, and three sizes: S, M and L. It can accommodate all the available operating options: patented Twin Pull, chain and motorised. For fast and secure installation, profiles in customised widths are available for the S and M systems. The aluminium bar that finishes the textile’s bottom end comes in a choice of three tones.
In line with the minimalistic character of the design, various motors can be invisibly integrated in the roller blind tube and the wiring can be invisibly hidden on the top, at the rear.
New Carbon Neutrality Tool
According to the Paris Agreement, every building must be ‘net zero’ by 2050. To support architects and designers in their sustainable design goals, Kvadrat Shade have developed the Carbon Neutrality Tool.
Kvadrat Shade metallised textiles enhance visual and thermal comfort and can reduce heating and cooling costs – as well as CO2 emissions. They prevent heat from entering a premises during summer and stop heat from escaping through uncovered windows in the winter period, thereby reducing the heat gain into a building.
The Carbon Neutrality Tool shows how Kvadrat Shade roller blind solutions can increase energy efficiency and reduce costs and CO2 emissions during the lifetime of a project. Potentially, achieve carbon neutrality in just 12 months. The Carbon Neutrality Tool enables the user to configure different solutions for a project and discover how long it will take to hit the carbon-neutral break-even point.
The tool takes into account, that the creation of Kvadrat Shade products inevitably has an environmental impact. It balances this against the ability of the solutions to minimise CO2 emissions by negating the need for heating and cooling.
